The development of the Wool Warehouse is a collaboration between Peter and Nick Krouwel – father and son – product designer and architect. This monument, located in the historic center of Leiden, was built in 1929 as a warehouse for NV Textielfabriek v/h Gebrs. van Wijk. During the development of the warehouse, efforts were made to preserve and restore its monumental value and to find suitable solutions to accommodate the future program: offices and housing. Breaking open the structure not only emphasizes its beauty, but the resulting atrium directs daylight to the intimate workplaces on the lower floors. The addition of several contemporary industrial elements such as a greenhouse, loggias and lofts are in line with the industrial character of the steel structure, which leads to an upgrade of both the building and its surroundings.

De ontwikkeling van het Wolpakhuis is een samenwerking tussen Peter en Nick Krouwel – vader en zoon – product ontwerper en architect. Dit monument, gelegen in het historisch centrum van Leiden, is in 1929 gebouwd als pakhuis voor NV Textielfabriek v/h Gebrs. Van Wijk. Tijdens de ontwikkeling van het pakhuis is gestreefd naar het behouden en herstellen van haar monumentale waarde en passende oplossingen te vinden om het toekomstige woonwerk programma te huisvesten. Zo benadrukt het openbreken van de structuur niet alleen haar schoonheid, maar geleidt het ontstane atrium daglicht naar de intieme werkplekken op de lagere verdiepingen. De toevoeging van meerdere hedendaagse industriële elementen als een kas, loggia’s en lofts, staan in lijn met het industriële karakter van de staalstructuur welk leidt tot een opwaardering van zowel het pand en haar omgeving.
