Our housing in densely populated cities is experiencing difficulties to adapt to the comprehensive needs and wants of the modern household. Due to the increasing flexibility in daily life, there is a growing diversity in the form of households and its living patterns. The design of S-QUBE (mass-customisable System of Qubes) enables users to efficiently manage their own to put together a house in an overarching supporting structure. This durable wooden building system is malleable, adaptable and applicable to different locations, including on the 'Hembrugterrein’ in Zaandam. By applying S-QUBE to the cultural institute HEM, a new landmark is created that is entitled as 'HEM-City’.

Onze huisvesting in dichtbevolkte steden ervaart moeilijkheden om zich aan te passen aan de alomvattende behoeften en wensen van het moderne huishouden. Als gevolg van de toenemende flexibiliteit in het dagelijks leven, is er een groeiende diversiteit in de vorm van huishoudens en hun leefpatronen. Het ontwerp van MaCuBS (Mass-Customisable Building System) stelt gebruikers in staat om op efficiënte wijze hun eigen woning samen te stellen in een overkoepelende draagstructuur. Dit uiterst duurzame houten bouwsysteem is kneedbaar, aanpasbaar en toepasbaar op verschillende locaties, waaronder op het Hembrugterrein te Zaandam. Door de toepassing van MaCuBS op het toekomstig cultureel programma van de industriële Patronenfabriek, ontstaat ‘HEM-City’.
